As the title of the song suggests, singer Pia Mia is not 100 percent happy in her current relationship. This is kind of ironic because nowhere in the track does she specify exactly what aspect of the romance is causing this dissatisfaction except for her overall powerlessness to terminate it. In contrast, she dedicates quite a few bars to highlighting aspects of her interactions with her lover that has contributed to this weakness. In doing so, she talks about her very strong, addict-like attraction to him as well as the loving emotions and thought processes she experiences when in his company.
In fact Pia is so hooked on the dude that in “Bitter Love”, she is requesting for someone to help ‘pull her away’ from this romance. Again what it is about this relationship that has her so uptight is unclear. But obviously this angst has something to do with that fact that she has seemingly tried to walk away numerous times, only to find herself back in his arms.
In other words, Mia cannot bring herself to permanently do away with this guy despite her seemingly earnest (at times) desire to do so.
Ultimately the song ends pretty much where it began. After listening to her story, we find that the love of Pia Mia’s life is not sweet but bitter. But at the end of the day, due to her emotional and physical dependency on her guy, this seems like a reality that at least for now she is just going to have to deal with.
