The easiest way to describe Stromae is as perhaps the most-internationally recognized Belgian musician from the first half of the 2010s. However, he may not be known to many people in Anglophone countries, as his music is primarily in French. His unique looks are actually the result of Stromae being able to trace his direct ancestry to both Belgium and Rwanda. He has won numerous awards throughout his career and has scored a plethora of number ones, especially in Belgium.

Fun Facts about Stromae

He was born in the Belgium capital city of Brussels to a Rwandan father and a Belgian mother. His father was tragically killed in 1994. The tragic death occurred during notorious Rwandan genocide.

At the beginning of his career, Stromae went by the name “Opmaestro”. He however, later changed it to the name we all know him by today.

He was once a member of a rap duo known as Suspicion.

Despite officially beginning his professional career in the music industry in 2000, it was only in 2009 that Stromae gained international recognition. This happened with the release of his smash hit single “Alors on danse”. As of 2020, he had sold close to 10 million records around the world.
