Besides Rylo Rodriguez, this song’s other writers are the featured artist, NoCap, as well as the track’s two producers, Gabe Lucas and MK Beats. As for NoCap, as with Rylo he hails from the city of Mobile, Alabama. And “Thang for You” samples the 2021 R&B track “Do 4 Love” by Swedish singer Snoh Aalegra, with associated vocals being used as the intro and for ad-libbing purposes. It should be noted that “Do 4 Love” itself is actually a cover of Bobby Caldwell’s 1978 hit “What You Won’t Do for Love”.

The Lyrics of “Thang for You”

What the song’s intro does go about establishing, most simply put, is this being a love song. And in that regard, Rylo’s lengthy verse covers all of the basics as far as mainstream rap is concerned. For instance, there are various references which serve the dual purpose of illustrating that he buys expensive gifts for his lady but furthermore can actually afford to do so.

Moreover, the verse seemingly starts off with him acknowledging that his sweetheart has at least one other boyfriend, and it also features some NSFW lingo pointing to the nature of their sexual relationship. Also, there’s that ever-present factor of “the hoes” being an impediment in the relationship, both in terms of Rylo’s girlfriend thinking that he’s cheating and also in regards to them filling her mind with negativity.

So overall, what we can ascertain here is that even though the vocalist loves the addressee, their romance has its challenges.

And as insinuated by the refrain that follows, from the vocalist’s perspective, that has a lot to do with him not trusting her.

And NoCap’s verse, which comes after, more or less reads the same. In other words he’s smitten, but there’s challenges, such as incarceration and what more notably reads like general estrangement, which is keeping him from the arms of his sweetheart. Along those lines, the outro can be read as alluding to both parties in this relationship(s) being distrustful of the other. But thesis sentiment wise such setbacks, if you will, does not quench the love which the vocalist has for the addressee and presumably vice versa.

“Wonder where you been, who you’ve been with
Wonder where you been, who you’ve been with
Lowkey thinkin’, ‘Where is you? And who’s been with you?’”
