Trivium’s “Strife” Lyrics Meaning

The singer is someone who has been overcome with “strife”. Strife is an emotion whereby an individual becomes angry and, within the context of this song, extremely confrontational. And at the beginning we see that the negativity building up within the singer is exceptionally powerful. Actually it is so powerful that it is causing him to lose “any shred of composure” and “rationale”. In other words, he is about to let his strife take over.

But as illustrated in the second verse, he knows that conducting himself in such a manner is not an ideal course of action. Indeed he later feels guilty when he lets strife control his disposition. Moreover he has come to learn that being angry and confrontational will not negate the emotional pain which may be at the source of these feelings. So now, he ‘struggles’ to find an alternative way of conducting himself when strife comes a-knocking.

And conclusively, this song can be said to be some sort of admonition. An admonition against what? An admonition against a person letting anger and vengeance get the best of them.
