“Victorious” by Yung Lean (ft. Bladee)

Yung Lean and Bladee are both rappers from Sweden, and they are also both down with an indie label from Stockholm known as Year0001. So they have collaborated numerous times in the past prior to the dropping of “Victorious” on 25 August 2023.

The two vocalists are credited with writing this song with its producer, Whitearmor. The director of the track’s music video is Aidan Zamiri, and “Victorious” was dropped alongside another Yung Lean song featuring Bladee titled “Bullets”.

Victorious

The Lyrics

This rap song is braggadocious in nature but at the same time not being of the confrontational, violent or criminal variety which tends to define the genre’s mainstream. Rather, the lyrics read as if they are more focused on the vocalists’ success and resiliency as professional musicians.

It also appears that there are ample, let’s say medieval references in the wording, many of which point to Bladee’s moniker. By the looks of things, that may be the type of style that the likes of these popular Swedish hip-hop artists tend to exhibit (as also made evident by the name of the track’s producer).

The earlier parts of this song, i.e. its two verses, have a romantic undertone. But as implied by the title, this track is primarily meant to speak to and celebrate Yung Lean and Bladee, both of whom have been industry active for about a decade, succeeding and lasting in the game.

So yes, there is of course some money-based braggadocio being relayed here as, in the genre of rap, flashy items and bankroll are considered to be the most-viable proof of having actually made it. But again, this track does not harp on such issues as notable as an American counterpart would. It’s more as if the rappers at hand are trying to prove their viability by actually dropping dope lyrics, i.e. setting out to also show that they can hang with the best of them.

“I was dirty in designer before it was trendy
I was tryna stay awake, my eyes are heavy
I was sorry before I was even born
So just forgive me
By the way, you’re way too pretty to be petty
I was praying for the sword to be reborn
You didn’t send me
But I feel like it is finally descending
When we raise our glasses up
Its overflow is never empty
We’re victorious and happy in the ending”
