“Waking Up Dreaming” by Shania Twain

Shania Twain’s “Waking Up Dreaming” starts of firmly along the lines of coming off as more or less your standard love song. But after the first verse, it starts to read more like a self-help/positivity-thinking type of piece. It isn’t until the bridge materializes sometime later that the notion of this track being romantic in nature is sort of reaffirmed.

And in context, all of that is just a fancy way of saying that this is one of types of love songs where the vocalist is asserting that her life will not be as edifying if the vocalist, i.e. the apple of her eye, were not present. And perhaps we can speculate that the implication is that this individual is not as convicted or confident in that regard as Shania is.

Or either way you flip it, it’s like the vocalist herself has come to the conclusion that the two of them needs to start being more aggressive in terms squeezing the full worth out of the life they’ve been given. After all, there’s no guarantee that there will be a “tomorrow” anyway.

So as far as this song deviating as noted earlier, those parts, such as the chorus and to some degree second verse, are based on sort of this YOLO type of sentiment. But the main point being made is Shania putting forth that in order for her to ‘live her best life’, she needs the addressee by her side.
