Ava Max has revealed that the sentiments expressed in “Million Dollar Baby” were founded during an era in her life whereas she was enduring “heartbreak and… a lot of sadness”. It was one of those types of situations in which obviously, there was no one to pull her out of this depression but herself. 

Or perhaps we can also say that at the end of the day, overcoming such funks requires some conscientious effort on the part of the sufferer. But all theorizing aside, that’s the course of action that Max ultimately took, reminding herself that she is “a million dollar baby”. Or, put otherwise, going back to her own explanation, she realized that we as human beings possess the inner qualities to overcome less-than-ideal situations that life may throw our way and put that belief into personal affect.

So to reiterate, it is such an effort which certain lines in this song are meant to illustrate. But more to the overall point is the vocalist being able to realize, amidst feeling really down on herself, that she is a person of value to begin with.

Ava Max sheds some Light on “Million Dollar Baby”

While working on this song, Ava was dealing with a severe case of depression caused by a heartbreak. According to her, she titled the song “Million Dollar Baby” as a reminder to herself of her self-worth and how valuable she is. She proceeded to write the song’s lyrics to let the world know that we have the strength to “overcome and achieve” any goals in life if we put our minds to it.

And Ava reportedly teased the forthcoming of this song via TikTok in conjunction with famed singer LeAnn Rimes.

Ava Max dropped her first LP, “Heaven & Hell”, in 2020, a project which impressively peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart. Her second-studio album is titled “Diamonds & Dancefloors”.

On September 1st, 2022, “Million Dollar Baby” was released as the second single from the just mentioned album via the efforts of Atlantic Records. The release of this single came just a few months after the lead single from the album in question was officially launched.

Sampled into this song is “Can’t Fight the Moonlight”, a track which American songstress LeAnn Rimes came out with back in 2000. So the writer of that tune, Diane Warren, is also credited on “Million Dollar Baby”.
