“Way Back” by TLC (ft. Snoop Dogg)

TLC has more or less been on hiatus since the turn of the century. They are a beloved girl group from the 1990s and as such have been sort of intrinsically imbued with this sisterhood image. And that is something they have capitalized on in more recent times, i.e. presenting themselves as established buddies.

That said, this song (“Way Back”) is based on such a motif, one that, as explained by T-Boz, centers on the concept of a loved one remaining so, even if you haven’t seen them for a long time.  And you can see from the first verse that said loved one is in fact a fellow female. Meanwhile Snoop Dogg takes it in a different direction with his verse, rather harping on his desire to lockdown a true love.
