“What If I Never Get Over You” by Lady Antebellum

Truth be told, Lady Antebellum’s “What If I Never Get Over You” is quite-complex despite perhaps appearing simple on the surface. It is a heartbreak narrative portrayed from two different perspectives. One is of course the singers’ inability to truly put the failed relationship behind them. Owing to this, it is safe to say that they both miss each other.

But the other premise is a lack of belief – or fear if you will – that they will never find another significant other.

So despite their recognizing that they had something special, there does not seem to be a genuine intent to re-ignite the romance. Rather it can be deemed that they are showing each other respect and perhaps one last sentiment of affection in acknowledging that despite the fact they have decided to move on, there is no guarantee that a better love is waiting down the road.

Lady Antebellum talks about the meaning of this song

According to Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelly, this song is about the feeling one gets after breaking up with a significant other. Explaining the song’s meaning to PopCulture, he said it captures the feeling one gets after a breakup where you find yourself wondering if you would ever find the exact “same connection and love” you had in the relationship that just ended. Would you ever find someone like your significant other that you just broke up with? That’s what this song is all about. And interestingly enough, Kelly himself once encountered that experience in real life.

First time I heard this beautiful song, it made me think of my dear husband who had passed about a year before. I’d been married and in relationships before, but this man made me feel loved every day in so many ways. And I doubt I’ll ever find that again, he was a real old school country gentleman and a remarkable fellow in his own right.

When I heard this song it made me think of my ex boyfriend. Just saw him and we chatted a bit and it definitely brought back the good times. I have a different life and so does he.

I know I don’t know you but I’m only 18 years old, and I felt this. I’m so sorry for all the pain you have been through I hope by now you found someone or you found or you found your self. I hope life it being good to you now.

This song really hit home for me. I am still in love with my ex of ten years and I know he loves me. He developed a meth addiction and he is toxic for me and himself. I grieve for the guy he used to be before the monster of meth took over. Don’t think I’ll ever have a greater love. And worry for his well being.

Reminds me of the first guy I had ever had sex with. We have both parted ways. It would have probably been a different life for the both of us. But I’ve honestly had a different life. For him, hes pretty much the same with the drinking, partying, and things like that even though hes in his early to mid 30s. I’m about to hit my mid 20s, still trying to have my own fun, figuring out my own thing and now I’m ready to settle down..if we would have been together still, we would most likely have locked it down early. But if I did, I wouldn’t be able to do all of the things I’ve wanted. We left with unfinished business but ever since this song has came on, i felt like it was the perfect timing. It’s been awhile since I’ve thought of this guy, but since this song came on, I’ve been about him a lot lately.

The meaning could also be thoughts between two encountering the first date pondering if this new relationship doesn’t work, before it ever begins. So many refuse to give it their all because they’re afraid of chancing the possibility of failure.
