070 Shake’s “Nice To Have” Lyrics Meaning

Succinctly put, this song highlights the appreciation 070 Shake has for her significant other. To put it another way, she has concluded that it is “nice to have” such a partner based on certain qualities this person possesses. For example, she is there to “hold” Shake. She also expresses to Shake how special she is to her. Moreover, she’s familiar with Shake to the point where she can’t deceive her and is there to keep her company during lonely nights. What this all boils down to is Shake expressing the sentiment that it is “nice to have someone to love you”.

In the first verse, Shake gives us a more-intimate look into their relationship. For instance, even when her partner claims to be terminating the relationship, shortly thereafter she still finds herself at Shake’s house, without clothes on, in the middle of the day. Furthermore, this person ‘squeezes her heart’, likely alluding to some type of strong-loving sensation, as Shake implores her to do it harder. Additionally, it seems that some of her associates aren’t too impressed with her partner. However, Shake feels secure and content in the relationship – so much so that even if she died in her arm, she would still do so with ‘a smile on her face’.

The second verse is more about Shake as an individual. For instance, she seems to enjoy being in the city, high on marijuana. She also acknowledges that despite being “a star” and “getting rich”, she is “still a menace”. She’s living life in the fast lane and enjoying the ride along the way. Unfortunately the hustle and bustle has prevented her from spending quality time with her boo. And apparently her partner has suffered due to her absence. However, now that Shake has made it home, she is looking forward to reestablishing communications with her.

It is near the end of the song, during this the bridge, that it becomes more obvious that Shake is singing about a woman, as she states her partner wants to be a “model” “up on TV”. And yes, some men want to be famous models too, but in general, it is the aspiration of a woman. And considering that she never uses any gender pronouns and within the overall context of the track, it seems pretty obvious that 070 Shake is referencing a lesbian lover.
