“1×1” by Bring Me The Horizon (ft. Nova Twins)

“1×1” can be interpreted either from the singer’s personal experience or a generalized concept that almost everyone relates to. Either way, the predominant theme is that of guilt and sorrow based on one’s past actions.

In the first verse for instance, Oliver could be talking about his past struggles with addiction and how the quarantine, a safety protocol resulting from the COVID-19 Pandemic could have evoked those gloomy memories and his culpability. The singer expresses more despair with phrases such as setting himself on fire and feeling ready to die, but somehow, he is too scared to take his own life.

Throughout the track, the writer highlights how guilty he feels for treating himself wrongly, for treating others unfairly and for sinking into so much depression. He further reflects on how the loneliness and emptiness aggravates his guilt and is killing him gradually on the inside.

Oliver Sykes sheds light on “1×1”
