André 3000
André 3000 is a hip-hop musician who is best known for being a member of the rap duo Outkast. Since they broke up early in the 21st century, 3000 has made relatively-little noise on the music scene, despite remaining a recognized and successful artist. But it’s not like he really needs to, considering that Outkast are amongst the most commercially-successful hip-hop acts ever. And although they don’t oft get credit for it, they were the ones who actually put the ATL on the map in terms of rap music.
Outkast were indeed a colorful duo, and André 3000 was like a whole degree more eccentric than even his partner, the ever-lovable Big Boi. Dre has dropped a few solo hits post-Outkast. However, his most-successful solo track, even though it was credited to the entirety of Outkast, was 2003’s “Hey Ya”! Said song went double-platinum in the UK. And alongside its highly-entertaining music video, it took home a bunch of awards. And one such award was a Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance.
He also co-wrote OutKast’s 2000 hit single “Ms. Jackson“.
Indeed André has always been what one can describe as an alternative artist. And even years after his musical heyday, he still tends to make headlines due to his overall unpredictability.
