Backstreet Boys

The Backstreet Boys were the most-popular of a number of successful American boy bands which were during the turn of the century. In fact as of the year 2020, they hold the distinction of being the top-selling boy band in history, having sold in excess of 100,000,000 records. Moreover they were even enshrined on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013, and they have won way too many awards to mention here.

This is not the case of a boy band being popular in their youth and then descending into relatively obscurity. Granted, most of the Backstreet Boys’ biggest hits, such as “I Want It That Way” (1999), “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” (1999) and “Shape of My Heart” (2000), are from back in the day. And their third and fourth albums, respectively “Millennium” (1999) and “Black & Blue” (2000), did top the Billboard 200. But so did their ninth-studio album, “DNA”.  And that project was released as recently as 2019, i.e. almost 25 years after their debut effort, the self-titled “Backstreet Boys” (1996). It produced a number of hits, including “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart“.

The Backstreet Boys’ membership has remained more or less unchanged since 1993. It consists of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson.
