Bastille
Bastille is a rock band from the UK who first started making music in 2010. They hold the distinction of being one of the rare acts in music history to totally blow from their first album. That would be 2013’s “Bad Blood”, which actually topped the UK Singles Chart.
Said album featured a track called “Pompeii”, which was Bastille’s breakthrough song. Or more specifically, let’s say it was a massive international success. For instance, it topped 5 different Billboard charts and has been certified multi-platinum in almost 10 countries. Accordingly the band went on to receive four Brit Award nominations in 2014, rightfully taking home the trophy for British Breakthrough Act.
As of the 2020, all four original members of Bastille are still in the group. The band consists of Kyle Simmons on piano and bass, Will Farquarson on guitar and Chris Wood on drums. And they are fronted by lead vocalist Dan Smith, who also plays a few instruments himself.
During the 2010s, Bastille released two other albums, “Wild World” (2016) and “Doom Days” (2019) which were both international successes. As such they have won a number of awards, besides the Brit Award mentioned above, throughout the decade. For instance, their 2018 track “Happier” (alongside Marshmello) won an ASCAP Pop Award in 2019 and another in 2020. And even though they didn’t take home the trophy, in 2015 they were also nominated as the Best New Artist at the US-based Grammy Awards.
