“Captain Hook” by Megan Thee Stallion

In the first verse of “Captain Hook”, Megan Thee Stallion asserts that she “ain’t no ho”. However, she dedicates the bulk of the lyrics to detailing her sensual interactions with a number of men (as well as to some degree other females). In the third verse, for instance she goes as far as to insinuate that if she has a boyfriend who is “tripping”, i.e. not acting right, she can even sleep with one of his friends. Moreover she uses the name “Captain Hook”, the appellation of a popular character in children’s films, to allude to the idealized shape of a lover’s “special part”.

But considering the landscape of the era of music she is operating in, such is understandable. Female rappers these days are basically tasked with presenting themselves as the equivalents of their male counterparts. That is to say that Megan, as a well-recognized rapper herself, must come off as a female playa, so to speak. So at the end of the day, the lyrics of this song may not be a reflection of her real life. Yes, Thee Stallion is known for fraternizing with a lot of dudes. But according to her, these are just platonic “guy friends”

So conclusively whereas we can definitely say, as put forth in the first verse, that she loves bedroom fun, the freewheeling-sensual lifestyle portrayed in the song may just be the case of Megan playing the role of certain type of character.
