Cardin’ “Confetti” Lyrics Meaning

Charlotte Cardin is a singer from Montreal whose only studio LP to date, 2021’s “Phoenix”, topped the Canadian Albums Chart. She hasn’t been terribly active in terms of dropping new music since, but the issuance of “Confetti” on 11 April 2023 via Cult Nation did come along with the announcement of that she was on the verge of releasing a sophomore studio album, which will be called “99 Nights”. However, at the time it is not clear if this song will be featured on that project.

The Lyrics of “Confetti”

Usually when we come across songs centered on the likes of wallflowers, the idea of not being fully embraced by the party at hand is frowned upon. But such is not the case of “Confetti”, which first of all isn’t actually a dance song.

Secondly, Cardin described this piece as “an ode to introverts”, such as herself. Or as Charlotte went on to elaborate, when she goes out to party she will inevitably isolate herself therein, in the name of gathering and composing her thoughts. And with that in mind, she went on to describe “Confetti” as “a party track for people who hate actually being at the party”.

And so it is with the character the vocalist portrays. She’s attending the featured party alright but “feel(s) like a zombie” therein.

The bridge goes on to imply that her disassociation with the crowd at large has something to do with their affinity for intoxicants, which proceeds to make them “crazy”. Put most comprehensively, Charlotte simply is not feeling the scene.

Therefore, the vocalist observing that “you’ll find (her) body fully covered in confetti” can be taken as a sarcastic statement. That is to say that if you were to see someone adorned so, the implication would be that they’re having or just had a good time. But in reality, while “in the club” Charlotte is very tense, even desiring that someone should “come” and take her away.

“I feel like a zombie, I’ll die at the party
Yeah, you’ll find my body fully covered in confetti
I tried calling somebody to tell them, ‘Come, get me’
But you’ll find my body fully covered in confetti”

Cardin talks about “Confetti”

According to her, this song is a tribute to all the introverts of the world. Considering Cardin herself is an introvert, this song is also an ode to herself. She revealed that she is so introverted to the point where even when she finds herself at a party, she would spend a considerable amount of time hiding in the bathroom trying to compose herself before heading back out into the party.

The aforementioned trait of hers was what inspired “Confetti”. She calls it a party track for everyone out there who actually doesn’t like being at a party.
