The Lyrics of “Cosmic”

This is a very-poetic song but one which, broken down to its base thesis sentiment, seemingly centers on the simpler notion of the vocalist considering the addressee to be his soulmate. As insinuated in the first verse, their relationship is a troubled, seemingly on-and-off one. But despite such challenges, Shadows still considers this lady to be the one, who for instance he will “follow”, as expressed at the end of the passage.

So with that in mind, it appears that the second verse revolves around the vocalist’s belief that they were made for each other. That is to say that no matter when or where they may be or have been placed, M expresses his commitment to his sweetheart. In other words, it’s as if he’s trying to say that they were already together in past lives, a notion which the singer also sorta points to in the first verse.

But in terms of such innuendos, the more down-to-earth message behind them reads something like at times the pair may treat each other well, and at other times they might be at odds. But the mistakes or estrangements do not negate the fact that they love one another.

“Fade – from all that was before we shut another door
But not a last goodbye
Fate – has taken once again, a fight we’ll never win
And time again we try
Left alone I can’t wait too long, fade
Love – we loved so many times
And in so many lives sometimes we got it right
Pain – It found its way back in
Until we meet again into that good night
None too far as we chase through the stars beyond forever
I’ll follow you”

SAMUEL says:

“Avenged Sevenfold’s ‘Cosmic’ contains lyrics which speak about important aspects of spirituality. These spiritual aspects of the song can’t be properly understood by the ordinary mind but one which is spiritually inclined. The line ‘and in so many lives sometimes we got it right‘, brings to my attention a concept of reincarnation, one I have strong belief in. This concept is present in various religions and philosophies. It entails the belief in the cyclic nature of life, where individuals undergo multiple rebirths, each marking the beginning of a fresh journey in a renewed form.

The repetition of ‘there you’ll find me’ suggests a search for something or someone significant, mostly beyond what the ordinary eyes can see. Another part of the song that catches my attention is the guitar solo. It adds a musical break, providing an instrumental expression of emotion. The references to roses, castles made of sand, and writing in caves evoke a sense of timelessness and mysticism.”

ANDY FORSON says:

“I was fortunate enough to attend the listening party on May 12 at A Lot at AREA 15 in Las Vegas, and ‘Cosmic’ was undoubtedly my favorite. For me, the musical transition from the solo to the piano break is the most amazing part of the song. From sheer happiness to sorrow, the song evokes a range of emotions in me. With its heart-wrenching quality, it takes you on a journey, stirring thoughts about those we may have lost along the way. Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite songs from Avenged Sevenfold. It is pure art, and I am sincerely grateful to them for creating this beautiful piece.”

RAYMOND says:

“Despite not considering myself a big fan of Avenged Sevenfold, there’s something about ‘Cosmic’ that stirs indescribable emotions within me. It’s an experience that defies explanation. In fact, it moved me so much that I secured tickets for their upcoming concert on June 22 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. I simply can’t pass up the opportunity to witness this song being performed live. I have a strong belief that it will be a part of their setlist, and I am not missing it for anything.”

I feel this song is more about someone or something constantly guiding humanity along the way throughout history. ‘Writing in the caves, as fire lights the way’ points to something always pushing humanity along like fate is sealed and is decided for us. And seeing how this album is based around existentialism and a possible simulation theory, its pointing that AI who you will find at the center of all of it.

At first, the lyrics of the song seem to describe a love that has ended but still lingers. But as the song progresses after the solo, the lyrics start to sound so random, but he line “there you’ll find me” is repeated, suggesting that it refers to the dream world, where you can do anything, like dancing in the wind or writing in the caves. This implies that the two lovers can reunite in their dreams.
