Succinctly put, “Dangerously in Love” is a love song that YNW Melly is writing to a dear lady friend while he is concurrently incarcerated. The track centers on one major theme and another subtheme. That is to say that Melly’s primary lyrical focus is his loving feelings for his girlfriend. And secondly, they are based on how he will treat her accordingly once he is released.
Indeed we can see from the first verse that this is someone YNW really cares about. For he expresses his willingness to buy her “new designer things” which logically will set him back quite a few racks. However, despite this lavishness, he assures her that things will “stay the same” between the two of them, insinuating that these expensive gifts will not change who they are as individuals nor how they feel about each other.
In the second verse, it becomes more obvious that perhaps this lady is not someone Melly has an established relationship with but rather a female he is now trying to impress so that when he does get out they can hook up. The lyrics can be read either way. But whether or not they have something ongoing is somewhat of a moot point, because YNW is more focused on the future than he is on the present. That is to say that despite how “infatuated” he is with this girl, in his current state he can’t touch her anyway. And of course he understands this. So all of his promises, as in efforts to impress her, are actually future-based until the third verse, which he relays from the perspective of being free.
Song’s Title
Meanwhile the title of the song makes an appearance in its chorus. And it reads as if it is just an overall statement of the artist’s affection for this particular lady, not anything ‘dangerous’ per se. But if we were to look at it as YNW Melly alluding to some type of actual threat associated with this romance, perhaps it is in relation to him being alarmed by how he is ‘moving too fast’ in terms of his feelings for this female.
Conclusion
So conclusively we can say that this is a love song, YNW Melly style. He comes off as affectionate and caring but at the same time the bad boy which we all know him as. For instance, when he projects himself into the future of actually being free and with homegirl, he admits that he will still be sleeping with other women. But despite this and the fact that the addressee of this song will be cognizant of such actions, his intent is to “forever” remain “faithful to” her.

YNW has been incarcerated since 13 February 2019 on two counts of murder. So the exact date upon which he recorded this song’s lyrics is unknown. However, considering that he had been incarcerated before, he could have written it based on that experience.
Creation of “Dangerously in Love”
YNW Melly is the sole writer of “Dangerously in Love”, which the track being produced by his regular collaborator, Yung Shad.
In 2003 Beyoncé also dropped a track entitled “Dangerously in Love”. That song is said to be interpolated into this YNW song.
