“Don’t Mess with My Mind” by EMO

These lyrics of “Don’t Mess with My Mind” are heavily imbued with religious-based metaphors, even more so than other pop songs of the day. But what the vocalist appears to be speaking to, in likening himself to “the devil” and all, is being enraptured by an insatiable sexual appetite for the addressee, his romantic interest. But as far as Emo relatedly stating that he “don’t give a f–k if (she’s) going back to heaven”, it’s not abundantly clear what he means in that regard.

And in reality this is a pretty grounded song, once the second verse is also taken into consideration. Therein, instead of coming off as some type of sex fiend, the vocalist rather puts forth his dedication to and dependency on the addressee. This is despite their relationship being one that others apparently want to “tear… apart”.

And in terms of the title, what Emo seems to be doing is entreating his lady not to ‘mess with his mind’ by entertaining the efforts of such individuals. Or theoretically put more bluntly, she should never give him the impression that she’s actually considering breaking up, as doing so would stress him out.

So whereas the first verse and refrain may make it seem like the vocalist’s attraction to the addressee is primarily sexually based, by the time all is said and done, this does read, religious metaphors aside, more along the lines of a conventional love song. But it is also one in which the singer acknowledges outside forces that are detrimental to the featured relationship.

Who is EMO?

EMO has chosen a stage name which presents challenges as far as researching the artist behind it, as the term “emo” is itself the name of an entire subgenre of music. When you couple that with the fact that the singer doesn’t appear to be particular well-known as of the writing of this post, we don’t have much personal information to report on him at the time.

But what is clear is that he has been heavily involved in the soundtrack to “365 Days: This Day“. In fact besides for “Don’t Mess with My Mind”, he also has four other tracks featured on the project. They are:

It also wouldn’t be out of the way to postulate that EMO may be Polish. For instance, the aforementioned movie is set largely in Poland, being based on a Polish novel. Moreover the primary musicians involved in the soundtrack are also from said country. And EMO has a collaboration with one such singer, Marissa, featured thereupon (with the song being titled “365 Days”).

Also the writers of this track, Dominic Buczkowski-Wojtaszek and Patryk Kumór are also Polish. The song’s producers, Hotel Torino, also originate from Poland.
