Indeed “Emmanuel” is Ameer Vann’s middle name, and as such this track is meant to give us a glimpse into his inner workings. For instance, he once again presents himself as a troubled soul but this time specifically within the context of coming from a troubled family life. He is also a serious victim of depression – so much so that Ameer has apparently contemplated suicide.

Also as with other tracks featured on the project, he brings up the fact that he made mistakes in the past which he still regrets. Overall Ameer perceives himself as some sort of a savior, and even drops some big names in that regard including “Jesus”, “David”, “Malcolm” X and “Martin” Luther King.

And he concludes the rap by referring to the inescapable pervasiveness of gun violence, particularly in regards to how it tends to go down in the African-American community.

So conclusively, this isn’t an exercise in self-exaltation as much as it is the artist acknowledging his own shortcomings and mortality. But at the same time, it is pretty clear that Ameer feels that he has something special to offer to his people.
