“Los Angeles” by Ameer Vann

As many of us already know, Ameer Vann was forced to leave the Brockhampton hip-hop collective in 2018 due to allegations he misconducted himself sensually. And “Emmanuel”, the EP which “Los Angeles” is featured on, is his first project since. And this is one of the songs in particular in which he, to some extent, addresses the aforementioned matter. Indeed Ameer, being a Houston native, spent time in the titular city specifically during his tenure with the group.

And to make a long story short, “Los Angeles” is based on two basic premises.  One is that Ameer was a lot less mature, if you will, during his Brockhampton days. That’s why he starts off the track by marking the moment he signed a deal as part of the group as the day he lost his “innocence”, on top of other changes he has gone through since then. Or another way of looking at it is that the money and fame that came along with signing a big record contract ruined many of his close interpersonal relationships.

And the second premise is that Brockhampton has been slandering him, using his “name as a meal ticket”. What he is basically saying is that Brockhampton keeps the issue of his departure alive for their own monetary gain.

But outside of that, he really doesn’t focus much on his former homeys.  Instead “Los Angeles” is centered on the idea of Ameer Vann staying true to his roots despite all of the negativity and mistakes, as well as a perpetual battle the artist is in against his inner “demons”.
