“Get Yourself High” by The Chemical Brothers (ft. k-os)

Taking the title (“Get Yourself High”) into consideration, the concept upon which this song is based is pretty self-explanatory. The addressee is being advised to get him or herself “high” as opposed to relying on others, most specifically the musicians themselves, to do so.

And of course being “high”, though generally understood as a reference to a state of intoxication, is a term that can be poetically interpreted in a number of different ways. Indeed if anything, what the Chemical Brothers seem to be actually referring to is ‘getting lost’ in the music.

Indeed this song is apparently premised on the addressee being bogged down by depressing thoughts. So what the vocalist is telling this person in the bridge is that instead of being preoccupied with negativity, he or she should rather dedicate their internal energies to adopting a more uplifted – or “high” – disposition.

So conclusively the thesis sentiment of this track is that, ideally speaking, you should not have to count on others to help you overcome depression.
