“Hunger” by One Direction (ft. Harry Styles)
The “hunger” being referred to in the title and chorus is a metaphor for the vigor the vocalist and addressee once possessed in regards to the romance they shared. So basically, the verses are meant to illustrate just how thoroughly, at one point in time, they were into each other. But as the second verse comes to a close, we see that now this relationship has been dead for almost two years.
The vocalist blames that reality in part on his tendency to ‘overthink’. But in all, even though it is not stated explicitly, the thesis sentiment revolves around him being in his feelings. Or put more bluntly, even after all of this time that has transpired, his ex is still on his mind. And he has not been able to find that type of true, ‘hungry’ love since, instead, most simply put, now being lonely.
Harry Styles
Apparently, there’s some well-connected industry figure out there who has it in for Harry Styles. Styles has been a major music star for over a decade now, since his days as a member of the British boy band One Direction. But after the group dissolved in 2016 and he ventured out on his own, Harry’s popularity has really soured into the stratosphere. As of the writing of this post, he can easily be considered one of the most-popular singers in the world.
As such his third LP, “Harry’s House”, is arguably the most hotly-anticipated album of early-2022. But today, about a month before said project is scheduled to drop, the album has leaked. In addition to that, quite a few of Harry’s solo tracks as well as some dating back to his One Direction days, such as “Hunger”, were unofficially made public also.
So it appears that someone out there is really trying to spoil the party, as the LP leaking for instance will undoubtedly negatively affect its sales once it is legally released. And that’s why Sony Music Entertainment – the parent label behind “Harry’s House” – has for instance urged netizens to exercise discretion by not downloading the album early, even though it is available somewhere online. But as for “Hunger” and some of the other songs, even though it was unethical to leak them, there’s no clear indication when or even if these tunes will ever be officially released.
The “Hunger” Song
Owing to the above, there is currently very little background information currently available on this song. However, it is widely believed that Harry wrote and produced the song.
Additionally, since Styles is listed as a featured artist, the logical implication would be that this song was perhaps recorded some time after early 2016. This was when One Direction went on indefinite hiatus.

To note, with the exception of Zayn Malik bouncing in 2015, One Direction has yet to officially disband.
