“I Want to Know What Love Is” by Wynonna Judd
This track is of course a cover of the original, classic “I Want to Know What Love Is“, as dropped by Foreigner in 1984. We’ve already looked at that particular outing, so we won’t go about beating a dead horse this time around. But most simply explained, the vocalist comes off as someone who is not only going through a trial of faith, but also her life is such that she regularly faces such challenges.
So it’s as if now, Wynonna is growing weary or disillusioned with what life has to offer. And that’s why she’s longing for someone to “show” her “what love is”.
That is to say that the addressee, whatever her relationship with this individual may be, is presented such that he or she has the potential to lift the vocalist’s pessimism, so long as said individual actually dedicates him or herself to that cause. And all things considered, it may well be that the intended addressee isn’t anyone in particular, but rather this song being meant to illustrate that the world is in need of love in general.

When was “I Want to Know What Love Is” released?
This track is Wynonna’s cover version of the aforementioned hit song by Foreigner. Wyonna’s version was officially released on August 24 of 2004.
It serves as the fourth single of the project entitled “What the World Needs Now Is Love”, which is her sixth studio album.
Promoted by a total of five singles, “What the World Needs Now Is Love” was officially made available to the public through Curb Records in August 2003.
“What the World Needs”, the first single from this album, was released in May 2003. Its next single, “Heaven Help Me”, has a release date of September 13 of 2003.
This album’s third single “Flies on the Butter (You Can’t Go Home Again)”, a cover of a song by US singer Lari White, was issued in March, 2004.
“Rescue Me”, being the last single from this project, was issued on August 29 of 2005.
