“Invisible Chains” by Lauren Jauregui

As you have probably already deduced, the title of this song (“Invisible Chains”) actually alludes to some type of persistent mental issue, i.e. depression, which the singer has to deal with. The lyrics of this song, despite being based on such a metaphor, are not necessarily complicated. But that being said, the overall storyline featured therein still is not the easiest to follow. For instance, at times the singer comes off as if she needs help in overcoming this disposition. However, at others, she may assert a sentiment like she has “found beauty in this pain”. What this appears to mean is that she has made peace with the situation.

Moreover she goes on to state in the bridge that “it’s too late to save” her, because she has already ‘saved herself’. However, she does this while simultaneously acknowledging the repressive affect the “invisible chains” still have on her. So all things considered, it does in fact seem as if this song is based on a sorrowful mindset which has overtaken the singer’s mind. And ultimately what she seems to be acknowledging is that it is up to her – and not another person – to bring herself out of this predicament.
