Kanye West’s “Donda” Album

The highly and long-awaited tenth studio album of American Billionaire and rapper, Kanye West was finally released on all online music streaming platforms in late August, 2021.

The album was supposed to be released on July 24, 2020; however, very usual of Kanye West, the album has been delayed multiple times. 

On July 22, 2021, he organized a listening event for the album at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where he had been temporarily staying and recording tunes for the album. 

Videos and photos of featured artists like 2 Chainz and Playboi Carti rapping and recording vocals in a set-up studio in the stadium’s locker room went viral on social media the previous day before the event.

Many fans and music lovers believed the album would be released after the event. However, due to some last-minute changes Kanye added, the final product of the album had to be delayed.

He organized a second listening event for the album at the same venue on August 5, 2021, but did not release the album still. However, after a third listening event on August 26, 2021, at Soldier Field in Chicago, his manager announced that the album would be officially released after the event. 

The performances at this event were spectacular, with Kanye even setting himself on fire, then remarrying Kim Kardashian on stage after the fire was extinguished. Another performance that made waves was that of singer Marilyn Manson, who many of his ex-partners accused of having abused them, and DaBaby, who had been banned from many music festivals after making some homophobic comments on stage.

More Interesting Facts about “Donda”!

Kanye’s record label, Universal Records, finally released the album on August 29, 2021. However, according to Kanye, the record label did not seek his approval before releasing the album. 

The album titled Donda is titled in honor of Kanye’s late mother, Donda West. 

The album focuses primarily on Kanye’s newfound religion and faith beliefs as a Christian. However, it also contains some secular music.

All in all, “Donda” is a well-curated album loaded with twenty-seven songs and features top performers like Jay Z, Chris Brown, Travis Scott, Pop Smoke, The Sunday Service Choir, and more. Six songs from the album were among the most streamed Spotify songs on August 30, 2021. 

In the US, all 27 songs of Donda were among Apple Music’s list of most-streamed songs. Kanye is said to be in a new partnership deal with Apple on the album.

Donda sold over a quarter of a million units in its first week.
