Kid Rock’s “We The People” Lyrics Meaning

It’s safe to presume that from a political and even social standpoint, COVID-19 has been the most influential disease in world history. And such is not due to the nature of the sickness in and of itself but rather how the powers that be have opted to respond to it.

Even now, getting to two years after the pandemic was first declared and with many governments toning down anti-COVID measures, still in places like the United States the heat is very much on.

Lyrics

And whereas Kid Rock’s tirade may not be overly specific in that regard, the main point his argument is based on is the government using the pandemic as an excuse to trample on citizens’ rights. Indeed many readers will recognize the title of this song as the first phrase found in the Preamble of the US Constitution, a document whose purpose is to outline the basic rights of Americans.

Well once again, many people in the United States of a like mind of Kid Rock feel that said document is being trampled upon by the likes of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Chief Medical Advisor to the President, with Fauci being recognized as the main proponent of COVID restrictions stateside. And then of course there is US President Joe Biden himself, who for instance went about forcing millions of Americans to get vaccinated, whether they wanted to or not. So that is why they both get cursed in this song.

As far as the former, Rock comes straight out and proclaims “f**k Fauci”. But concerning the Prez, he uses the euphemism of “let’s go Brandon” in the chorus which, as has been pointed out previously in this blog, is another way of saying ‘f**k Joe Biden’.

Also in terms of the chorus, instead of relaying it from his own viewpoint, Kid rather signs it as “we the people”. So basically what he is saying is that all Americans are pissed at Biden which, although not literally true, is sorta the political reality at the moment. And yes, a lot of that has to do with the public growing weary of the rigid COVID restrictions his administration supports, even if the disease is spreading in the States.

The Attacks Continue

Kid Rock doesn’t end there, as he also uses the opportunity to spaz on other parties involved in the grand scheme of things. For instance, he directly damns “the mainstream media” and more specifically Facebook, Twitter, CNN and TMZ. Logically the reason he would be doing so in context of what has been put forth above is because they are the ones who have been for the most part further pushing the COVID narrative as put forth by the government.

But TMZ is more of a celebrity gossip organization and is not really on it like that. And it seems, since Rock proceeds to call out “social media trolls” right after namedropping the site, that maybe they too said something about him that he didn’t like.

“We the People” attacks the Black Lives Matter Movement

Kid Rock also calls out the Black Lives Matter movement on this track. And again, “We the People” is a piece full of innuendos, requiring listeners to have some type of foreknowledge of all that’s been going on as of late beforehand. Basically, BLM is perceived by conspiracy theorists like Kid Rock to be an extension of the Democratic agenda, with the aforementioned President Biden currently being the leader of the Democrats.

So with that in mind what the vocalist is trying to say, in a roundabout way, is that BLM is irrelevant. Or as he puts it, of course “Black lives matter”. So even going as far as to make such a statement and name an organization so is an insult of the public’s intelligence, so to speak.

Takeaway

But all disses aside, the thesis sentiment of this piece, as relayed in the refrain, is a call for “we the people” to “unite”. And as far as the refrain goes, Kid Rock comes off sorta like Eminem by calling on the audience to ‘take his hand’. In doing so, he’s presenting himself as someone who can “lead” them “to the promised land”.

It is not specified what said promised land, which would be an ideological aspiration as opposed to a physical location, actually entails. But all in all, what Kid is more practically calling for is a united stance against what some may term as COVID tyranny. Or put differently, as further illustrated by his mention of the increasingly higher cost of living, he does not approve of the current leaders of the land. In his eyes, he feels these leaders don’t have the best interest of the people at heart. The way he sees it, unless the people actually stand up and fight, then the powers that be will persist.

Facts about “We the People”

Kid Rock is a semi-rapper whose musical heyday dates back to the late aughts and more specifically his 2007 album “Rock n Roll Jesus”. Although he may not sell as many records now as in days past, he has remained musically pertinent, such as all of four of the studio albums he dropped from 2010 to 2017 scoring within the top 10 of the Billboard 200.

Meanwhile “We the People” was released via Top Dog Records, a label he has owned since 2003, on 25 January 2022.

To note, Kid has a history of dropping patriot-minded songs, such as 2010’s “Born Free”, which is the title track to an album he came out with by the same name.

Kid turned 51 years old less than a week prior to “We the People” being dropped.

Upon this song’s release, it did promptly proceed to top the US iTunes chart.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned in the above analysis is that Kid Rock also namedrops Donald Trump, i.e. the US President that preceded Joe Biden, in “We the People”. And he does so to point out, under his estimation, what equates to media hypocrisy, i.e. the mainstream suppressing Biden’s border control measures. But by contrast when Trump was doing the same, he was labeled a “racist”. And according to Kid, the Donald personally contacted him to ‘express how proud’ he is of him for dropping this song.

In addition to holding down the vocals, Kid also wrote and produced “We the People”.
