“Love Me Again” by V (BTS)

As we have pointed out numerous times in the recent past, the Bangtan Boys, aka BTS, have been more solo-oriented of late. This is due to the group being on hiatus since mid-2022, and its members setting out to fulfill their respective and mandatory military obligations.

V has dropped a few songs on his own prior to 2023, all of which were either associated with soundtracks or BTS albums. Now he’s on the verge of coming out with his own debut project, “Layover”, which some may define as a EP since it’s only (as of this writing) six tracks long but is being classified as a studio album nonetheless.

So with “Love Me Again” being made public via BigHit Music on 11 August 2023, this marks the co-lead single from the album as another of its tracks, “Rainy Days”, was released on the same day.

The producers of this song are South Korean musician FRNK alongside Freekind, a musical duo from Slovenia. Both acts also get songwriting credit for “Love Me Again”. They composed it in conjunction with Kim Ximya and Gigi, who are also Korean.

And to note this song has been well received out of the gate, topping Billboard’s Hot Trending chart, being voted “This Week’s Favorite New Music” (beginning on August 13th) by Billboard readers and reportedly debuting at number one on “Spotify’s… ranking of the most-streamed songs worldwide” (though we could not verify that fact).

Love Me Again

The Lyrics of “Love Me Again”

As you probably already gathered from the title, V is addressing his ex and more specifically one he wishes to re-engage with. Traditionally, South Korean artists don’t really drop overt love songs. But this is obviously an exception, even though the exact nature of the relationship between the parties involved is never specified.

So what we are met with here is basically a vocalist who’s in his feelings post-breakup, while his ex has seemingly moved on with her life. For example, it is more or less implied that she’s now dating “someone else”.

But as for V, he has come to the conclusion that he doesn’t “want nobody else”. That is to say that his romantic interest is solely in the addressee ex who, as also implied, obviously doesn’t feel the same. So basically the vocalist, a victim of unreciprocated or wasted love, is begging her to ‘love him again’.

“I wish you would love me again
No, I don’t want nobody else
I wish you could love me again, again
I wish you would love me again
No, I don’t want nobody else
I wish you could love me again, again”
