Mario’s “Care for You” Meaning

In “Care for You”, Mario takes on the role of someone involved in a troubled relationship, most likely a romance, though the music video implies otherwise. The issue doesn’t seem to be with the other person per se – who has proven herself to be loyal – but rather with Mario. Yet despite his shortcomings what is obviously clear is that he still cares very much for his partner.

"Care for You" lyrics

Ultimately Mario acknowledges that due to his wishy-washy ways the person he is in this relationship with is becoming insensitive. However, he cannot imagine life without her.  So he continues to strive to keep the association alive, despite various obstacles. For instance, his partner spews “hateful words” at him, seemingly for the purpose of hurting his feelings and succeeds in doing so. And to some extent, Mario acknowledges that he deserves such. Yet at the same time he is requesting fairness from this other person.

As the title of the song suggests, this track concludes with Mario expressing his undying affection for the addressee of “Care for You”. In other words, despite his own feebleness and the abuse he suffers in this relationship, he is dedicated to his partner and committed to being by her side.
