“Get Back” by Mario and Chris Brown

This track (“Get Back”) is a bit unusual as far as bedroom fun songs go. And such is largely due to the first segment actually being centered on a concept like the homeys lusting after a girl they only encounter in their dreams – or what some may more formally refer to as a spirit spouse

That is why in the chorus we have the vocalist(s) expressing a need to ‘close his eyes’ before interacting with the addressee, i.e. his romantic interest, in order to ‘get back to her body’.

But outside of that, this song is for the most part along the lines of what fans would expect from a Breezy/Mario collaboration. And the concept of the vocalists wanting to enrapture themselves in the addressee’s body is what convincingly takes center stage. Moreover, as the song progresses said addressee reads more like a literal, physical woman.

But last thing that must be noted is that Chris Brown actually sounds a bit date rapey at the beginning of the first verse. However, as further elaborated in the trivia section, both he and Mario trace their professional origins back to the early-to-mid aughts.

So perhaps in that regard they are deriving inspiration from their 1990s’ predecessors, i.e. the likes of R. Kelly and Keith Sweat.

Mario and Chris Brown

Mario is a singer from Baltimore whose heyday was during the early aughts. For instance, it was during that time that his biggest hit to date, 2004’s “Let Me Love You”, came out. In more recent years, some may have presumed that he has retired from the game. But the singer dropped a studio album, Dancing Shadows, in 2018 as well as an EP, Closer to Mars, in 2020.

Meanwhile Chris Brown, despite regularly making tabloid headlines for seemingly all the wrong reasons, within a 15 year timespan has established himself as one of the best-selling artists in music industry history. He regularly collaborates with other A list musicians, and his own most recent LP, 2019’s Indigo, topped the Billboard 200. It also achieved RIAA platinum certification.

“Get Back”

“Get Back”, which was released on 29 October 2021, marks Chris and Mario’s first collaboration. This is despite the two of them being R&B vets and to some degree contemporaries. Mario, currently at 35, is three years older than Chris. However, to note, Mario is credited as a co-writer of Breezy’s 2017 track “Enemy”.

Also as Mario has pointed out, they’re both ‘reppin’ the DMV’, i.e. the Washington D.C./Maryland/Virginia conurbation. Brown actually traces his origins to VA.

As of its release, this song is not associated with any album. However, by the looks of things it will appear on a forthcoming Mario project.

Musicians that acted as both writers and producers of “Get Back” are as follows: SprngBrk, Dre Moon and TBHits.
