“redmOOn” is a song recorded and performed by South Korean singer and rapper, ARTLOVER. The singer, who is currently based in London, UK, released this song officially on 28th September, 2021.
Shortly after the release of “redmOOn”, we spoke to the up-and-coming K-Pop rapper who shared with us among other things the song’s birth and the meaning behind it.
How was the songwriting process?
I was actually dealing with a breakup at the time I wrote this song. To overcome the breakup, I got up from my bed, sat down at my desk, and started writing a song. And that is how this song was born.
Did you write the lyrics before the music?
I composed the background music first and then wrote the melody and lyrics.
Did you release “redmOOn” independently or through a record label?
I released it independently.
Have you shot an official music video for “redmOOn”?
Yes. It was filmed in Hongdae in Seoul. It was my first time working in South Korea, so it was not easy but fun.
The song was creatively directed and edited by me. It was a very cold winter, but I acted as I did not feel the cold.
Where did you record the song?
I recorded it in my cozy room.
How long did it take you to work on the single?
It took a month to write it, but it took me a year to be satisfied with it.
What is the meaning of “redmOOn”?
“Redmoon” has a lot of meaningful words itself in it; love, passion, dream, future and you. All in all, it is about the cycle of love.

Before venturing into music, ARTLOVER actually worked as professional make-up artist. During her successful career as a make-up artist, she worked with a number of big names in the fashion industry, including the likes of Elle and Vogue.
In 2018, ARTLOVER released her maiden single entitled “Want U Back”. The next year, she came out with another single she titled “Heart of Stone”.
