“Revenge” by CaptainSparklez (ft. TryHardNinja)

As you have probably already deduced from the name of the artists, “Revenge” is not a serious song. Rather it is a parody of a 2010 Usher track entitled “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love”. And “Revenge”, as in its lyrics and music video, are based on the popular videogame “Minecraft”.

In fact CaptainSparklez and TryHardNinja relay the lyrics of the song from the perspective of characters in the game. And they do so effectively enough that a listener can even use it as somewhat of a “Minecraft” player’s guide, specifically in terms of dealing with “Creepers”. Indeed you can say that the “Creepers”, powerful villains found within the game, are actually at the center of this song. That is to say that the titular “revenge” the artists are espousing is against these opponents. So what the lyrics of this track actually center on is a few “Minecraft” basics – the destructive behaviors of the “Creepers” and encouraging the listener to “hone that form”, as in ‘train’ to defeat these villains.

So in that regard we can conclude that “Revenge” is catered to a specific audience, particularly “Minecraft” players. However, considering that it is a parody of a song by a popular artist, a broader audience may get a kick out of it also.
