“Skeleton” by Bloc Party

Bloc Party’s “Skeleton” reads like a case of man versus nature. The singer wants to let his maleness out – if you will – and pursue happiness in life at his fullest strength. But he feels as if the society, so to speak, is holding him back from doing so. Or stated differently due to having all of the “fun” and ambition intentionally driven out of him, the vocalist feels as if he is “just a skeleton”, i.e. a shell of man. Indeed he presents himself as “a simple man with simple desire”, whom external forces are not allowing to live his “dream”. And given the nature of Bloc Party as a band, once again this is likely meant to be some type of negative criticism of the powers that be.
