“Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan

Zach Bryan has explained that “the orange” in “Something in the Orange” is more or less symbolic of the sunset. What that would allude to in context is that time of day being one of reflection. That is when he perceives “the orange”, he has a better understanding of what is transpiring between himself and the addressee.

Or interpreted differently yet again, “the orange” represents the moments in which Bryan is engaged in his most-profound, and perhaps we can also say honest thoughts concerning the featured relationship.

And as for said relationship, between the vocalist and addressee, theirs is a romantic one. More to the point is the association being in serious peril.

Or put more into layman’s terms, the situation reads as if Zach has come to the realization that as it currently stands the addressee’s imminent permanent departure is inevitable, and that is not something he wants or can even really imagine. This is despite apparently understanding that his own actions have contributed to this reality.

As such, his conclusive message to her is twofold. One is that she should stick around and secondly should sympathize with the fact that he would be totally lost without her.

A Successful Song

This track has proven to be a solid hit, peaking at number 3 on the US Hot Country Songs and US Hot Rock & Alternative Songs lists. Additionally, it has thus far gone gold in Canada. Also, it marked Bryan’s first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 itself.

In other words, “Something in the Orange” currently stands as the biggest hit (single) in the vocalist’s discography.

It is noteworthy to state that Zach’s “American Heartbreak” album has also firmly established itself as the singer’s most-successful album to date.

Did Zach Bryan write “Something in the Orange”?

Yes. Zach wrote this track. Furthermore, he holds sole writing credit for the track. What this means is that he penned the track all by himself.

The track’s production was subsequently done by Ryan Hadlock.

I would like to note the “Orange dancing in your eyes from bulb light” is my favorite line. I’ve seen that when she has tears and a quivering face. It’s a clue that she does care because she’s hurt. She needs some time but
My interpretation is that the sunset rises again and he’s not giving up hope that she will come around too. When he says turn those headlights around, he wants her to come back. Because she is everything to him and something is telling him it’s not over and to not lose hope in their love.

He knows there is no forgiveness
the pureness of there relationship is a memory of the comfort between her head resting on his chest ,by his betrayal she must leave.
What was true and pure their covenant he has poisoned .
A good woman needs not to look back.

Does anyone know where the video was filmed? It’s beautiful along with the song.

I love this song. The lyrics are beautiful. The instrumentation is piercing and soulful. The harmonica sounds like a cry for the love of his life to return and give him another chance. The video is beautifully done. I see that this song was nominated in the “Best Country Solo Performance” category for the 2023 Grammys. I hope this song continues to get the notoriety it deserves.
