“Sure Thing” by Miguel

Miguel has revealed that the lyrics of “Sure Thing” are akin to a freestyle, and at the time he penned it he was under the influence of Lil Wayne, one of the best lyricists out there when it comes to devising clever metaphors.

That said, the poeticness of this piece is not necessarily what we would define as being ingenious. But the metaphors are plentiful and diverse. The primary purpose they serve is to poetically illustrate how the vocalist feels that he and the addressee, his significant other, are the perfect match.

As for the title, it is found in its chorus and bridge. Miguel, in his own words, offered a relatively-fancy explanation as to what the phrase “sure thing” is supposed to mean in context. But as presented in the lyrics, what it basically boils down to is a sentiment along the vein of how the term is commonly used, i.e. to point to the idea of the vocalist being convinced that his love for the addressee is as real as it gets.

Beyond that, other lyrical details of this outing feature Miguel not only commenting on their ideal fit but also his unwavering faith in their relationship. Or put otherwise this is a standard love song from a sentimental perspective, though lyrically it relies on a bit of creative lingo.
