“Now or Never” is a track in which the singer Halsey is entreating her romantic interest to make a decision. This song is part of the fictitious story of two lovers who were created by Halsey. The characters were created specifically for the album this track is featured on.
In the song, the lovers are suffering from a deep longing for each other. However, the other person seems distant both emotionally and physically. Yet the singer is demanding that her partner open up and vest more into the relationship, right now, at this very moment. And the track gives the impression that if the other person does not do so, she is ready to terminate the entire romance. To a significant degree, she feels the “ups and downs” associated with the relationship are a waste of time.

- It was written by Halsey in conjunction with four other songwriters, including Brittany Hazzard (best known as Starrah) and Benny Blanco. The other two are: Cashmere Cat and Happy Perez.
- This track was produced by three of the songwriters who co-wrote it. They are: Cashmere, Perez and Blanco.
- As was earlier said, this track is part of the romance saga that is central to Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. The romance is between Luna of Aureum House and Solis of the House of Angelus. Luna, Solis and the entirety of Hopeless Fountain Kingdom was inspired by the literary classic, “Romeo and Juliet”.
- Halsey was going through serious mental health issues during the recording process of this song. Benny Blanco, being genuinely concerned for her, served as her informal counselor throughout the recording of this song.
- Halsey initially previewed this song in February 2017. During the preview, she performed it for just a group of 100 diehard fans in London.
- Halsey co-directed the music video for “Now or Never” alongside Sing J. Lee. This was Halsey’s directorial debut.
