“The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady” by Kid Cudi (ft. Eminem)

Generally speaking, “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady” is braggadocious in nature. Kid Cudi, aka “Moon Man”, raps about his jet-setting lifestyle. And Eminem presents himself as a superior rapper who will never become outdated no matter how many years he’s been in the game. And of course it wouldn’t be a real “Slim Shady” rap if Em doesn’t use the opportunity to diss another celebrity, which in this case would be NFLer Drew Brees.

The lyrical stab at the multi-million dollar quarterback is apparently due to Brees speaking out against national anthem protests which were the hot topic in the NFL a short while ago. Furthermore, Eminem voices his discontent over the way politicians have been handling the coronavirus pandemic, depicting some of them as “half-wits” and the others as basically bullies.

And the rapper also acknowledges the Black Lives Matter movement while referencing the murder of George Floyd. But overall the artists are not trying to stick to any particular topic. Rather they, Eminem especially, deliver lengthy verses whose lyrics ultimately point to their mega success as musicians.

Summary: This song is braggadocious in nature, with the rappers chanting about their overall success.

Facts about “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady”

Moon Man is one of Kid Cudi’s nicknames. He dropped a couple of instrumentals with “Moon Man” in the title respectively in 2013 and 2014 and also has an unreleased track from 2009 entitled “Call Me Moon Man”.

Meanwhile Eminem is already well-known by the moniker Slim Shady. He even named his multi-platinum second album “The Slim Shady EP” (1999).

“The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady” was written by Kid Cudi alongside Eminem. And the producer of the track is Dot Da Genius.

This song was officially released on Friday, the 10th of July, 2020. However, prior to that, it was first teased via Kid Cudi’s Twitter account on 3 July 2020. And he did so again, via his Instagram account, on 8 July 2020.

This track marks the first official collaboration between Cudi and Shady in which both artists are serving as vocalists. However, Eminem did produce Cudi’s 2010 track “I Hear Them Calling Me”. And he sampled (as well as acknowledged) Cudi on his own 2015 song “All I Think About”.

Indeed the two artists have apparently been mutual admirers of each other’s work before teaming up to drop “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady”. For instance, Cudi also acknowledged Eminem in 2015 in response to the aforementioned shoutout Shady gave him on “All I Think About”. And even as recently as few weeks before this track’s release, Cudi publicly asked Eminem for “help!”. It isn’t exactly clear the manner of help Cudi was seeking from Em.
