“Way to Break My Heart” by Ed Sheeran (ft. Skrillex)

As can be deduced from the title, this is a breakup song. Ed Sheeran is singing to a woman, specifically his “first love”, who has broken his heart. And what he is basically telling her is that she has done so effectively.

Ed was deeply in love with her and in fact up until now he hasn’t gotten over her. At one point in time they shared memorable, intimate moments together. But it would appear that, without any warning, she decided to give herself to another lover. That is to say that even in hindsight, the singer cannot identify any particular reason why his ex left him “alone”.

So as of now, he finds himself in emotional turmoil. And he cannot get over the fact that their beautiful relationship is over. Moreover, considering the fact that it seems the particular romance he is speaking of ended “12 years” ago, it is likely that he never will. Or as Ed puts it himself, “first love never dies”.

Release Date of “Way to Break My Heart”

This collaboration between Sheeran and Skrillex  was released by Asylum Records in conjunction with the iconic Atlantic Records on 12 July 2019.

However Ed Sheeran may have teased its release, via Instagram, as far back as 20 September 2017.

Earlier that same month (15 September) he and Skrillex performed a surprise, joint performance at the renowned Five Roses Pub in Chicago.

Album Appearance

“Way to Break My Heart” appears on Ed’s fourth-studio album, entitled No. 6 Collaborations Project. Despite not being one of the album’s singles, it is considered one of the notable songs from the album.

Skrillex and Sheeran work for the first time

This heartbreak track is the first official collaboration between Ed Sheeran and Skrillex. That being said, Skrillex co-produced another track on the album entitled “Take Me Back to London”.
