Zara Larsson’s “Don’t Worry Bout Me” Lyrics Meaning

In “Don’t Worry Bout Me” the singer, Swedish pop sensation Zara Larsson, plays the role of someone who has gone through a breakup.  Yet she finds herself in a situation where her ex still inquires of her well-being. However, she does not particularly care about him. As such, the main theme of the song is based on is Zara telling the guy to leave her alone and instead worry about himself.

The track starts off with Zara addressing her former lover and after sending him a general greeting stating that this person treated her unfairly. However, in the process of the song, we see that he is still inquiring of her, asking if she is okay. This is something that she does not particularly appreciate. Indeed in the second verse, she reveals that her ex’s real problem is that he is suffering due to losing her, as in missing having her in his life. Owing to this, he is attempting to maintain a presence in hers. But there is no longer room for him in her heart. Instead she is moving on with her life, and at this point in time, he is not what she desires.

Thus in the chorus, we find Larsson telling him to focus on loving himself, as he has always done, instead of now being concerned about her. In fact she is doing quite okay without him. Moreover she takes her snubs a step further by telling him that how she is faring is actually “none of (his) business”.
