“Chances” is a love song performed by the iconic American boy band the Backstreet Boys (BSB). As the title suggest, this song, which came out in November 9, focuses on the theme of chances.

Speaking with Billboard magazine, AJ McLean of Backstreet Boys confirmed the above. According to him, this isn’t the average Backstreet Boys love song that fans are used to. He referred to the song as a “realistic love story about chance”.

  • None of the five members of Backstreet Boys contributed to the writing of “Chance”.
  • Approximately seven songwriters came together to pen this song. They include Canadian singer Shawn Mendes and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic fame. The other writers are Fiona Bevan, Casey Smith, Geoff Warburton and Zach Skelton.
  • “Chances” marked both Tedder and Mendes’ first collaboration with the Backstreet Boys. However, it wasn’t the first time AJ McLean worked with Tedder. McLean worked with him during his solo career.
  • In addition to co-penning “Chances”, Tedder and Skelton also co-produced it.
  • “Chances” was officially made available for digital download and streaming on November 9, 2018.
  • The song came just over six months after the release of the group’s 2018 comeback song “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”.
  • The official music video for “Chances” was directed by AJ McLean. Thus becoming the first BSB music video to be directed by a BSB member.
