“Burnin’ Train” by Bruce Springsteen

This is a song which relies heavily on elaborate and even overtly-religious symbolism.  But apparently, what it is all meant to point back to is a passionate relationship Bruce Springsteen is in. That is to say that, all lyrics considered, the addressee appears to be a romantic interest. And basically, what the Boss is saying is that his relationship with this individual did not materialize as he expected. For he went into it looking for ‘healing’ but has ‘instead been set on fire’. And this is not to insinuate that he is dissatisfied with the relationship. Rather it ended up being an unexpectedly deep, encompassing spiritual as well as physical experience.
