In the first verse of the single, he speaks about how he can still hear the music of the dead far away in his mind as well as his dreams. Here, he represents the dead with stones; he makes this assertion clearer in the pre-chorus. He additionally adds that he needs the company and love of the dead.

The chorus makes references to the fact that he feels he is alive but feels alone without the company of the deceased.

In the second verse, Bruce is reminiscing about events that happened when the deceased was alive. He goes on brooding about the moments they had together in the third and fourth verses.

All in all, “Ghosts” is about the special feeling of being a part of a band and how it hurts when a member is lost as a result of death. The track was written to commemorate the members of his band who had passed.
