“Cinema” by Harry Styles

It can be said that the songs featured on “Harry’s House”, taken comprehensively, more or less depict the vocalist as a womanizer. But we all know that at the time of the album’s release Styles does have a main squeeze, that being Olivia Wilde. And we also know that their relationship sparked while filming a movie together. In other words, their romance is related to the “cinema”. So that coincidence got fans speculating that maybe this song is about said relationship.

But when posed with said question directly, Harry implied that such is not the case. And as presented in the song, the word “cinema” reads like a metaphor, albeit one very much pointing to the notion of the vocalist being smitten. It sorta sounds like “cinema” is synonymous with the term character. So when Harry puts forth that he’s ‘diggin’’ the addressee’s “cinema”, as also revealed in the chorus, that’s another way of him saying that he thinks that she’s “cool”.

Harry derived inspiration for the title of this album from “Hosono’s House”, an album by Japanese musician, Haruomi Hosono.
