“Satellite” by Harry Styles

A satellite, most simply explained, is an object that revolves around a major celestial body. And the reason the vocalist is comparing himself to one is because he too is “spinning”, going “round and round”. More specifically, what he is alluding to his romantic life, as well as that of others.

For instance, in the first verse, it is implied that the addressee is a former romantic interest, though one that Harry has reengaged in a type of meaningful relationship with, despite her apparently having moved on with her life. In the second verse, where it can be taken that the addressee is another of his romantic interests, what Styles is putting forth is that sometimes he’s not in “mood” to communicate with her, or something like that.

Either way, it can be theoretically taken that it is smittenness which is being likened to a cyclic feeling. For instance, going back to the first verse, where it is insinuated that the addressee is the vocalist’s ex who has moved on, we see that she still, at times, finds value in their relationship. And even though Harry may not feel like talking to the addressee of the second verse, the implication is that when he’s not in “an LA mood”, then he would.

Taking the chorus and bridge into consideration, it can be further postulated that what Harry is speaking to is how mood swings can (negatively) affect a romantic relationship. That would be why, hypothetically, he is idealizing that the other party plays the role of the more stable partner, one who can navigate through his ups and downs and mitigate his resultant loneliness.

I believe this song is about one particular woman who Harry (or one of the other writers dated). The first verse is Harry calling his ex to check in, he’s concerned about her but it’s trying to be delicate.
The second verse “I’m in an LA mood, don’t want to talk to you- she said give me a day or two” is presumably a continuation of the phone conversation and what she said in response to his words in verse 1.
The chorus is his frustration: he knows she’s hurting and he is waiting for her to get back in touch/open up to him. These words are what he wants her to know – he’s waiting for her to engage, wishes he could be there for her and he’s still there for her.
