“Complicated Freak” by Harry Styles  

The “complicated freak” being referred to in the title is the vocalist’s ex-girlfriend. The reason he designates her as a “freak”, as illustrated in the first verse, is because she’s the type of woman who was always down for some kinky sex.

Apparently, the “complicated” adjective is meant to point to the notion of him having a hard time figuring her out. And concerning that perception it would appear, as relayed in the second verse, that Harry was cheating on her. Indeed, it may have well been his mistreatment of the addressee which caused her to ‘lose her head’. But by the looks of things, he never expected her to actually pack up and bounce, taking her edifying lovin’ with her.

So as far as the thesis sentiment goes, basically the vocalist is heart broken, if you want to term that way. Or more specifically, reading in between the lines he sorely misses having the addressee in his life due primarily, most simply put, to the good sex. But in any event, as it currently stands he’s hot and lonely, while another guy is now the recipient of her love.

When was “Complicated Freak” released?

For whatever reason, in April 2022, Harry Styles’ eagerly-anticipated third-studio album, “Harry’s House” leaked about a month before its official release. And as if that wasn’t enough, during that same month a handful of Styles’ tunes from yesteryear (which beforehand never saw the light of day) also leaked. “Complicated Freak” falls into that latter category and dates back to the mid-the-late 2010s. It was recorded while the singer was preparing his debut LP, 2017’s “Harry Styles”.

Interesting to note is that upon the track being leaked, fans of the singer complained that it should have indeed been included on his first album.
