“Comfort” Crown” tackles the importance of having a person around to offer comfort in times of need. As is clear in the initial verse, the writer seems to be dealing with some kind of pain or loneliness, yet no matter how he pretends, he realizes that he desperately needs someone to help him through it.
Though he initially pretends that he is fine, he acknowledges that he just needs his friend or a group of friends around to keep him company. He recalls how when he is with them, they just talk, have fun and waste away, yet these moments mean a lot to him. As he continues, he implies that friendship is an essential part of his life. And why? Because though his friends and him have a lot of good times, he can always trust them to help him deal with his down moments as well.

Conan Gray, talking about the song in an Instagram post revealed that while writing it, he felt extremely lonely since all his friends were in college. At that moment, he wished his best friend was around so they could spend time talking and keeping each other company.
“Comfort Crowd” is not about Romance
Shortly after Gray released “Comfort Crowd”, many instantly misinterpreted to be a love song. However, Gray quickly took to his Twitter page to clarify that. He stated categorically that it is a song about feeling very “isolated and lonely”.
