“The Cut That Always Bleeds” by Conan Gray
Conan Gray’s “The Cut That Always Bleeds” is centered on the singer being caught up in a toxic relationship. More specifically his partner is the type to do him dirty, such as emotionally abuse Conan and basically breakup with him. But then at her own convenience she will come back, looking for his love. For instance, he recounts a situation in the second verse in which she decides she would rather move with some other dude. And then when said dude dumps her, she returns to Conan.
But the sentiments being relayed aren’t centered as much on her less-than-favorable actions as they are his own emotional weakness towards her. Simply put, despite being well aware that she is the type of lover as detailed above, when she does come back around he appears powerless but to accept her back. And in doing so, he knows that he is setting himself up to have his heart broken by her yet again. So metaphorically speaking, this is what he is referring to by “the cut that always bleeds”. This is because when she does actually leave him, his heart begins to heal. But then she returns and wounds him emotionally anew. But again, the thesis sentiment of the track isn’t her tendency to do so but rather the fact he loves her so much that he cannot break himself out of this cycle.

Conan Gray wrote “The Cut That Always Bleeds”, and the track was produced by a producer known as Dan Nigro.
Republic Records released this track on the 20th of March 2020. It is one of the tracks on Gray’s debut album, which is entitled “Kid Krow”.
Conan has stated that “The Cut That Always Bleeds” is based on a real-life relationship he was in. In the process, he implies that this was indeed a toxic romance, i.e. one that lowered his self-esteem. So accordingly this was someone whom he was “trying so hard to get over”. Yet whenever he was on course of doing so, i.e. “feel good and normal again”, she would rematerialize and “tear (his) heart into a million pieces again and just disappear”. And he had grown accustomed to this abuse.
Moreover on the particular night that he penned the tune, he was supposed to meet up with her but rather came down with “this insane flu” and found himself bedridden. So it can be said that he wrote “The Cut That Always Bleeds” at the height of his misery.

Conan has not said his sexuality. He has said however that he likes men. Please change the she’s to they’s. The reason being assuming it was a girl is not respecting his choice to not reveal his sexuality. As well as assuming it is a she being disrespectful of the fact he has said many times he likes men.

There’s already a couple replies to this affect, but ‘she’ isn’t the correct term. It would be better to use ‘they’ as Conan has never explicitly said his sexuality, however has expressed interest in men.

it’s not that…it’s the fact that his sexuality isn’t labeled. the author is forcing a label by implementing “she” when talking about his partner. it’s just respectful to say “they” for conan. i agree that sometimes people tend to go overboard with the pronouns stuff, but this certain situation is just purely out of respect. thank you 🙂
