“CrasH” by ScHoolboy Q

American rapper Schoolboy Q delves into a variety of topics on the song “CrasH”. Amongst the topics he touches on are his street life, financial success and affinity for golf. However, the track’s lyrics primarily center on familial issues, particularly in relation to his daughter.

And in that regard Schoolboy’s grind is largely dedicated to making sure she is right. In fact he acknowledges that his failure in the game would also manifest in her taking a loss. But Q’s thoughts are not preoccupied with the threat of taking Ls. Rather he is out to ensure that her future is just as bright as his present. As such, he even dedicates lyrics to enlightening “young ni**as”, as he understands that these are the ones who will “one day… meet (his) daughter”. He also encourages her to be proud of her racial heritage, because “the school system won’t teach” her this same type of self-appreciation.

The title of the track is derived from Schoolboy’s all-or-nothing attitude. That is to say he is trying to balance his tenacious ambitions for success with the perils inherent in having this type of boldness.

  • This track samples and was influenced by the 1999 rap song “Boom” by Royce da 5’9”.
  • Schoolboy wrote the lyrics of this song along with labelmate Kendrick Lamar and the track’s producer, Boi-1da.
  • “Crash” was released commercially by the Los Angeles-based Top Dawg Entertainment in conjunction with Interscope Records.
