“Funky Glitter Christmas” by NMIXX
“Funky Glitter Christmas” is a bilingual Christmas song which, self-admittedly, is a “funky” one. That’s not to say that its sound is reminiscent of what Americans would traditionally define as funk music. But more generally, such a designation is obviously meant to allude to this being a Christmas tune alright, albeit one designed to encourage listeners to dance.
So the lyrics are kinda twofold. On one end they do read like your standard Christmas song, i.e. the vocalists noting different aspects of the holiday that she enjoys, such as the associated sweets.
Furthermore, the Nmixx girls apparently proceed to wish the entire world “Feliz Navidad”, which for the record is how you say “Merry Christmas” in Spanish. And the way the vocalist is idealizing the holiday is as one spent with “family and… friends”.
So putting all of this together, it can be concluded that Kyujin and the gang are very much looking forward to “a big party” in the name of recognizing Christmas. And as inferred it is such a celebration, i.e. getting together with loved ones and having a good time, that they actually relish most about the holiday.
NMIXX
Nmixx is a girl group from South Korea that was just formed in 2021. Concurrent with the release of “Funky Glitter Christmas” on 23 November 2022, the members range in age from 16 to 20, with the youngest being Kyujin and the oldest, Lily. In between, from eldest to youngest, we have Haewon, Sullyoon, Jinni, Bae and Jiwoo.
Thus far Nmixx has dropped a couple of single albums (i.e. EPs), 2022’s “Ad Mare” and “Entwurf”, both of which proved to be chart toppers in their homeland.
This act is a product of JYP Entertainment, the same label responsible for Twice, one of the more popular K-pop girl groups of the moment. More specifically, Nmixx is the inaugural act signed under SQU4D, which is a subsidiary of JYP. And to note, this song was issued as a standalone single.
“Funky Glitter Christmas” was written by Korean musicians Cho Yuri, Hwang Yoo Bin and JJean.
To note, the fandom of this particular K-pop act are reportedly known as NSWERS.
