Or more simply put, he was caught up in a long-distance relationship. And as illustrated in the lyrics, this was a situation that definitely perturbed him. So what it is he is trying to “get through” is the depression of being separated from the woman he loves.

But that said, the lyrics present this case more as one in which the addressee is someone he has yet to get with. So basically, the vocalist is fantasizing about being her lover. But in the meantime, being devoid of this individual’s affection is like torture on poor Daniel. Or explained more plainly, he’s in love with someone, and as things currently appear he’s not going to be content until he actually bags her.

English and New Zealand singer Daniel Bedingfield made his debut in November 2001 with the UK garage song, Gotta Get Thru This. The song is the first single off his maiden studio album, also titled Gotta Get Thru This. 

Polydor Records released the album on August 26, 2002. Daniel himself, D&D productions, and executive producers, namely Stephen Emmanuel, Martin Newman, Ali Staton, Al Stone, and Mark Taylor, produced the entire album. The original compilation of the album consists of 13 songs.

Daniel Bedingfield wrote all the songs on the album, except for the rap on Right Girl and Blow It Again, composed by Solid Rock.

Gotta Getta Get Thru This did impressively commercially as a debut album and received a positive reception and high ratings from music critics. AllMusic rated it a 4-star album, Blender gave it a 3-star rating, NME gave it an eight out of 10 scores, and The Village Voice recognized it as an A- album. 

Gotta Getta Get Thru This peaked in the top 100 positions of numerous countries’ charts. In addition, it has received a five-time platinum certification from the United Kingdom. The album is reported to have sold millions of copies around the world. The exact figure is somewhere in the region of 3 million.
